We’re thrilled to announce that Research and Desire is officially transitioning our content management system to Sanity CMS—a powerful, flexible, and developer-centric platform that will fundamentally transform how we build and publish content.
This is more than a backend upgrade—it's a major step forward in how we share our ideas, document our creative process, and collaborate as a team. Whether you're a longtime supporter or just discovering our work, we want to bring you closer to the experimental, inventive, and unapologetically curious world of Research and Desire.
For a while, we managed our blog using more conventional CMS tools, but we quickly outgrew their limitations. Static markdown files and traditional CMS platforms made it difficult to collaborate efficiently, version content, or build a dynamic workflow that matched the pace of our creative process.
Sanity CMS changes that completely.
Sanity is built on a structured content model, meaning we can define exactly how our content is organized—from basic blog posts to highly custom product documentation. This gives us the flexibility to scale our ideas without losing consistency or control.
Sanity enables real-time, multi-user editing, so multiple members of our team can work on a post simultaneously—just like Google Docs, but for structured content. No more copy-pasting between apps or managing awkward content freezes.
We’re building our frontend using Next.js, and Sanity integrates beautifully with it. Thanks to Sanity’s real-time APIs and GROQ (Graph-Relational Object Queries), we can build dynamic, performant, and SEO-friendly pages that reflect changes instantly—without needing to redeploy or wait for static builds.
This means that when we ship a new product, write a technical deep-dive, or share a provocative insight, you’ll see it live immediately.
At Research and Desire, our projects don’t follow templates—and neither should our content. Sanity allows us to define custom schemas, input components, and editorial workflows tailored to the needs of each unique project we’re working on. From internal notes to public documentation, everything now lives in a single, coherent system.
This transition to Sanity is laying the groundwork for the next chapter of our blog—and we’ve got a lot coming your way. Here’s a look at just a few of the topics we’re excited to publish soon:
We’ll dive deep into the ideation, design, and mechanics of one of our most ambitious products to date. Learn how we designed a responsive training device that merges anatomy, feedback loops, and open-ended user exploration.
Explore the intersection of intimacy and digital control. We’ll break down the secure firmware, app integration, and physical design considerations that went into creating a connected, consensual locking experience.
We believe pleasure tech should be as hackable and community-driven as any other serious field of innovation. In this post, we’ll share why we’re open-sourcing core parts of our hardware/software stack—and how you can contribute.
From prototypes that never made it to market, to speculative devices we’re still developing in the lab, we’ll be documenting our side explorations more openly. Think of this as a peek behind the curtain—our digital R&D notebook.
Switching to Sanity CMS isn’t just about efficiency—it’s about expression. We want to build a space where engineering, intimacy, art, and desire converge, and Sanity is helping us do that more effectively.
By freeing ourselves from the constraints of rigid CMS systems, we can now focus on what we do best: building provocative, thoughtful, and high-quality work that challenges norms and invites discussion.
Whether you’re here for the tech, the philosophy, or just the curiosity—we’re glad to have you with us.
